In this Post: Join us for Unicorn Day, a random April holiday! Treats and fun in the real world and beautiful photography in the virtual world of Second Life at the Unicorn Gallery!
Hello, Dear Ones! So as you know, I love holidays…especially random ones. We began with January holidays to fill the holiday gap, but now we’ve branched out to other months. Unicorn Day makes me happy. I don’t have a little girl but unicorn day gives me an excuse to embrace my little girl side. Thankfully Leeland is small enough to enjoy the fun with me. Here’s how we celebrated:
Real World Fun
- Books and a Craft- We read Thelma, the Unicorn, and I’m a Unicorn. Charlie, our unicorn, got in on the fun. I’m a Unicorn was a bit cheesy but my toddler liked it. I actually loved Thelma the Unicorn. It has a great message. It’s also sweet and funny. Even Michael snickered. Basically, a pony poses as a unicorn and finds that fame isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
Leeland colored, glittered, and stickered this sweet picture from here.
It says, “Mommy, you’re my unicorn!” I’m not sure what that means but I like it.
We all enjoyed Magic strawberry straws in our milk.
Leeland and I baked a unicorn cookie mix from Walmart.
It was beautiful and fun but…
The cookies did not bake well and they didn’t have much flavor. They were much prettier in the jar. We used the crumbles in our ice cream and threw the rest out.
So I decided to buy strawberry ice cream, top it with purple and pink sprinkles, and use our unicorn toppers on it instead. Our ice creams were delicious but warning…sugar crashes may ensue. Here’s a pic of our unicorn ice cream cones. I got the toppers either at Walmart or Michael’s Craft Store.
Unicorns Everywhere! After this post I began seeing unicorns everywhere….cookies at Barnes & Noble, the party stuff below from Hobby Lobby, crafts at Dollar Tree…everywhere!

Virtual Fun at the Unicorn Gallery- It had been awhile since I had explored the virtual world of Second Life. I remembered visiting the Unicorn Gallery two years ago and it seemed the place “to go” on Unicorn Day. The Unicorn Gallery features the work of various Second Life artists. It’s also on a beautiful and fantastical sim that’s fun to explore. A lot has been added since two years ago and they changed location. Sims change all the time but…
you can probably still visit it here:
Last week- I donned my unicorn sweater and crown. I explored the gallery and then the surrounding woods.
There are several photo ops.
Of course, there are unicorns everywhere! They made for great photo fun!
“Auuugggg! A tree beast is watching us!”
“Sweet baby unicorn…”
And I end with the crystal cavern that has a dwarvish door. The Lord of the Rings feels was incredible!
If you visit the Unicorn Gallery or make your own real life “unicorn magic”, please leave me a note or link in the comments. I love to hear from you!
God bless and remember the High King lives! ~Amber Dover
